Description
Armadillidium vulgare “Dalmatian” isopods are a beautiful spotted morph of the classic roly-poly type isopod, prized for their bold contrast and variable patterning. No two seem exactly alike, which makes a group especially fun to watch as the colony grows out and develops more visible character over time. Their look is what makes them special, but their durability is what makes them such a solid choice for hobbyists.
Like other A. vulgare, this morph is known for being relatively forgiving and beginner-friendly once established. They tend to do well in setups with a balanced moisture gradient rather than overly wet conditions, and they appreciate plenty of leaf litter, cork, calcium, and hiding space. They are best suited for keepers looking for a display colony, a cleanup crew for appropriate temperate-style bioactive setups, or a dependable species to expand a collection with.
These isopods are slow-and-steady colony builders compared to some faster breeding species, but they make up for it with their appearance, hardiness, and overall ease of care. If you want a morph that combines classic vulgare toughness with a more striking patterned look, Dalmatian isopods are an excellent pickup for any collection.
